Project OpenCore

The build

The Story: What Was Asked For, What Was Chosen, & What Was Awkward What Was Asked For A single, uncompromising machine built for intensive 1440p/4K gaming at ultra settings, Unreal Engine 5 development, and daily software compilation—with a focus on platform upgradeability and low operational noise. What Was Chosen Core Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4070 Super OC, and 32GB DDR5 RAM on an ASUS ROG Strix B650-A Gaming WiFi motherboard. Storage & Power: 2TB Kingston NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD powered by a Corsair RM850 80+ Gold PSU. Chassis & Cooling: Showcase Thermaltake Core P3 open-frame case with a Lian Li PCIe riser cable, cooled by an MSI Mag CoreLiquid 360 AIO and 3x Asiahorse 120mm fans. What Was Awkward & Solved PCIe Signal Mismatch: On first boot, the GPU outputted no display. Left on "Auto," the motherboard and GPU attempted a higher PCIe link rate than the Lian Li riser cable could cleanly carry. Manually setting the PCIe slot to Gen 4 in the BIOS resolved the signal handshake immediately. Open-Air Noise & Cable Routing: Because the open-frame chassis exposes all wiring and acoustics, cables were custom-routed through structural channels, and a custom fan curve was set in UEFI to prevent aggressive fan ramping during quick CPU spikes.
